# Mexican consulate in Vancouver: residency visa requirements, read September 2026

Vancouver publishes the 2026 formula to the dollar. Its own rules sit on top: a booking email, one financial option per person, stamped statements, and an age for retirees.

Quick answer

Vancouver prints the 2026 formula exactly: **CAD 6,461 a month** or **CAD 108,894** for temporary residency, **CAD 10,832** or **CAD 435,672** for permanent. Book through MiConsulado, then **email visasvan@sre.gob.mx at least five business days ahead**, choosing **one financial option per applicant**. Electronic statements need an **original ink stamp**, retirees must be **at least 60**, and the fee is paid in **cash or Interac**. Read on 22 September 2026.

## The CAD figures, and why they can be trusted

Vancouver shows its working. Next to real estate and investment it prints the peso amounts, MXN 10,758,500.10 and MXN 5,378,663.50, which are exactly 91,710 and 45,850 UMA at the 2026 value of MXN 117.31. Every Canadian dollar figure on its pages divides back to the 2026 multiples at the same rate, about 12.35 pesos to the Canadian dollar. The temporary figures are identical to those published by Leamington, the other Canadian post we have read in full.

| Route | Multiple | Pesos | Vancouver, CAD |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Temporary, income for 6 months | 680 UMA a month | MXN 79,771 | CAD 6,461 |
| Temporary, average balance for 12 months | 11,460 UMA | MXN 1,344,373 | CAD 108,894 |
| Each family member, a month | 220 UMA | MXN 25,808 | CAD 2,090 |
| Permanent, pension for 6 months | 1,140 UMA a month | MXN 133,733 | CAD 10,832 |
| Permanent, average balance for 12 months | 45,850 UMA | MXN 5,378,664 | CAD 435,672 |
| Real estate in Mexico | 91,710 UMA | MXN 10,758,500 | CAD 871,439 |

A figure published on the national formula still moves with the exchange rate, and the peso amount is what the law fixes. If the Canadian dollar weakens before your appointment, the peso line is the one to clear. The [calculator](https://getmexicovisa.com/mexico-residency-income-calculator) works in pesos for that reason.

## Book, then email: Vancouver's two-step booking

All visa appointments are requested through **MiConsulado** at citas.sre.gob.mx, one per applicant. Then, at least **five business days before** the appointment, Vancouver wants an email to **visasvan@sre.gob.mx** with:

-   the date and time of the appointment;
-   the full name of each applicant, a phone number, and how the applicants are related;
- the visa type, and the option each applicant is applying under.

The page adds that appointments are opening gradually, and that because of the volume of requests it cannot answer every call, so questions go to the same email. Book the slot, diarize the email, and send it early.

Slots are free and cannot be bought

MiConsulado costs nothing and the consulate controls its calendar. **We do not book, resell or secure appointments.**

## One financial option per applicant

In that email you name the option each applicant is applying under: employment, pension, economic solvency, investor, real estate and so on. Vancouver's page is explicit that **options cannot be combined**, so each applicant chooses one.

In practice that means a file cannot make up a shortfall in income with savings, or the reverse. Pick the route you clear comfortably and build the whole file to it. The [temporary residency guide](https://getmexicovisa.com/mexico-temporary-resident-visa) compares the income and savings routes.

## Statements need an ink stamp

Both residency pages repeat the same warning: Vancouver does **not accept electronic statements** as proof of economic solvency **unless they are accompanied by an original ink stamp** from your bank or investment company. A PDF downloaded from online banking, printed at home, will not pass on its own.

Ask your branch for stamped statements covering the full lookback, six months for income and twelve for savings, and allow time: some branches need notice. Everything else in the file is presented in original with a photocopy.

## Retirees: at least 60, by Vancouver's reading

Vancouver's permanent resident page, updated on 30 June 2026, heads its first category "Retirees or Pensioners" and adds that, according to Government of Canada regulations, to be considered a retiree or pensioner you must be **at least 60**. The national Lineamientos speak of retirees and pensioners without an age, and other posts read the category differently.

With that condition met, Vancouver asks for a tax-free pension over **CAD 10,832 a month** for the past six months, or an average balance of **CAD 435,672** over the past twelve. Someone under 60 with a pension should raise it with the consulate before booking, or consider the temporary route, whose figures are lower. The [permanent residency guide](https://getmexicovisa.com/mexico-permanent-resident-visa) and the [retirement guide](https://getmexicovisa.com/retire-in-mexico-visa) set out the choice.

The same page says permanent resident applications are made at the consular office closest to where you live. The national Lineamientos let any consular office take a visa application; the [consulate tracker](https://getmexicovisa.com/mexican-consulate-requirements-by-city) covers that point and compares Vancouver with the other posts.

## Common-law partners

Vancouver sets out the proof of a common-law relationship in more detail than any other post we have read. The applicant presents a **statutory declaration or affidavit signed before a Canadian notary public**, stating that as of the application date the couple have lived together publicly and continuously for **at least two years**. It must include notarized copies of both partners' photo ID and documents showing the relationship, such as a joint lease or mortgage, joint property, joint bank or credit accounts, a tax return showing the union, or a life insurance policy naming the partner.

A couple with children together presents the children's birth certificates instead of meeting the two-year minimum, and shows a common residence with utility bills in both names. A declaration signed in British Columbia, the Northwest Territories or Yukon goes through Vancouver's own legalization process; one signed in another province or abroad must be legalized by the corresponding Mexican office or apostilled. Family unity cases are taken at the consulate only when the Mexican or resident relative is outside Mexico and attends with the applicant; the [family unity guide](https://getmexicovisa.com/mexico-family-unity-visa) covers the rest.

## Paying, and the day itself

The fee is paid **in cash or by a Canadian debit card with the Interac logo**, and the fee page asks for Canadian dollars in the exact amount. It lists the visa at **CAD 80**. That page is dated January 2025 and still gives USD 54 as the dollar reference; SRE's national fee is now USD 56, which Toronto's September 2026 table also shows as CAD 80.

Bring the application form printed on a single double-sided page and signed, the passport with a photocopy of the data page, a Canadian status document if you are not a Canadian citizen, and one 3.9 by 3.1 cm colour photograph. The visa depends on the interview, is valid for one entry, and leads to the resident card at the National Migration Institute within 30 days of arrival, the step the [canje guide](https://getmexicovisa.com/canje-stamp-mexico) explains. Vancouver advises against booking travel before the visa is approved.

## Frequently asked questions

### What income does the Mexican consulate in Vancouver require for temporary residency?

A tax-free monthly income over CAD 6,461 from employment or a pension for the past six months, or an average monthly balance of CAD 108,894 over the past twelve, according to its temporary resident page updated on 27 March 2026. Both are the national 2026 formula, 680 and 11,460 UMA, converted at about 12.35 pesos to the Canadian dollar.

### How do I book a visa appointment at the Vancouver Mexican consulate?

In two steps. Book through MiConsulado at citas.sre.gob.mx, one appointment per applicant, and then email visasvan@sre.gob.mx at least five business days before it with the date and time, each applicant's full name, phone number and relationship, and the visa type and option each is applying under. The page warns that appointments are opening gradually and that it cannot answer every call.

### Does the Vancouver consulate accept online bank statements?

Not on their own. Vancouver's residency pages say it does not accept electronic statements as proof of economic solvency unless they carry an original ink stamp from the bank or investment company. Ask your branch for stamped statements before the appointment.

### How old must a retiree be at the Vancouver consulate?

At least 60, according to Vancouver's permanent resident page, which cites Government of Canada regulations for that reading. The national Lineamientos speak of retirees and pensioners without an age. With it, Vancouver asks for a tax-free pension over CAD 10,832 a month for six months, or an average balance of CAD 435,672 over twelve.

### How do I pay the visa fee at the Vancouver consulate?

In cash or by a Canadian debit card with the Interac logo. Its fee page asks for Canadian dollars in the exact amount and lists the visa at CAD 80. That page, dated January 2025, still shows USD 54 as the dollar reference; SRE's national fee is USD 56, which Toronto's 2026 table also shows as CAD 80.

### How do I prove a common-law relationship at the Vancouver consulate?

With a statutory declaration or affidavit signed before a Canadian notary public, stating that the two of you have lived together publicly and continuously for at least two years, with notarized copies of both IDs and documents such as a joint lease or mortgage, joint accounts, or a tax return showing the union. With children together, their birth certificates replace the two-year minimum, plus utility bills in both names.

### Can I combine income and savings at the Vancouver consulate?

No. When you email the consulate before the appointment you name the option each applicant is applying under, such as employment, pension, economic solvency, investor or real estate, and the page says options cannot be combined: each applicant chooses one.
