# Mexican consulate in Toronto: residency visa requirements, read September 2026

Toronto is the only post we have read that publishes no residency income figure at all. What it does publish is strict: email bookings, no agents, and cash or money orders only.

Quick answer

Toronto **does not publish its solvency figure**: it asks applicants to email **visastor@sre.gob.mx** for the current amount, and visa appointments are requested **at the same address**. It **does not accept applications from lawyers or agents**. The fee is **USD 56, shown as CAD 80**, in **cash, money order or certified cheque**. The national rule is 680 UMA a month, which Vancouver and Leamington print as CAD 6,461. Read on 22 September 2026.

## The missing figure, and how to fill it

Toronto's temporary resident page lists "economic solvency" as a requirement and, instead of an amount, asks you to consult the up to date amount by email. Its permanent resident page does the same. Of the eight consulates we have read, Toronto is the only one that publishes no residency figure.

The amount is not a Toronto decision. It is national: 680 UMA a month for six months, **MXN 79,771**, or 11,460 UMA in average savings over twelve months, **MXN 1,344,373**, under the Lineamientos of 25 July 2025. What varies is only the Canadian dollar conversion. Two other Canadian posts publish theirs for 2026, and they agree:

| Route | National, MXN | Vancouver and Leamington, CAD |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Income, a month for 6 months | MXN 79,771 | CAD 6,461 |
| Average savings for 12 months | MXN 1,344,373 | CAD 108,894 |
| Each family member, a month | MXN 25,808 | CAD 2,090 |

So: email Toronto and ask for its current figure, keep the reply, and prepare to the higher of that figure and the one above. The [calculator](https://getmexicovisa.com/mexico-residency-income-calculator) gives the national lines in pesos.

Where Toronto does print numbers, they are the old formula

The same page prints figures for real estate (**MXN 12,490,240**, CAD 921,904) and company investment (**MXN 6,245,120**, CAD 460,953). Both are the pre-2025 formula, 40,000 and 20,000 days of a daily wage of MXN 312.256, and both are about 16 percent above the current national figures of MXN 10,758,500 and MXN 5,378,664. The page was updated after the reform took effect and still carries the older numbers, which is one more reason to confirm the solvency amount in writing.

## Appointments by email

Toronto's visa page divides its services in two. For Mexican passports, voter cards, birth certificates and powers of attorney, appointments go through MiConsulado, online or by phone and WhatsApp on 1 424 309 0009. For any other service, visas included, you request an appointment by writing to **visastor@sre.gob.mx**. The same address answers questions about requirements.

Put the visa type and route in the email, and use it to ask for the solvency figure at the same time. The [consulate tracker](https://getmexicovisa.com/mexican-consulate-requirements-by-city) shows which other posts book by email and which refuse it.

## No lawyers or agents at the window

Both residency pages carry the same "friendly reminder": Toronto does not accept applications from lawyers or agents. The applicant must apply directly and meet every requirement, or the application is disregarded.

That rule is about who submits, not who helps. The applicant writes the appointment email, attends, and hands over the file in person. Help with preparing the documents beforehand is outside it. **We do not book, resell or secure appointments** at Toronto or anywhere else, and a service that offers to file for you in Toronto is offering something the consulate has said it will not accept.

## Paying: cash, money order or certified cheque

Toronto's fee table, updated on 1 September 2026, lists the visa for a foreign passport at **USD 56, shown as CAD 80**. Fees are paid in cash, or by postal or bank money order or certified cheque made out to the Consulate General of Mexico in Toronto. The consulate adjusts its fees at the start of every month, so check the table in the month of your appointment. Other articles in its visa section say the visa fee is paid in cash.

Debit and credit cards are not on Toronto's list. [Vancouver](https://getmexicovisa.com/mexican-consulate-requirements-by-city/vancouver) takes Interac debit; Toronto does not say it does.

## The file Toronto lists

- The **visa application form**, properly completed.
- A **copy of your passport**.
- For applicants who are not Canadian citizens, a **copy of the document proving legal status in Canada**.
- **Economic solvency**, for the amount Toronto gives you by email.
- For family unity, the relationship records. A common-law relationship can be shown with a **statutory declaration signed before a notary public**.

Two notes on documents from the same page. Family records issued outside this office's jurisdiction must be **legalized by the corresponding Mexican embassy or consulate**, and records from a country other than Canada need an apostille or legalization. And no applicant may apply for a visa for more than one spouse or partner. The page lists the Mexico-Canada Youth Mobility Program under international mobility agreements, a separate route for young Canadians.

The visa is for one entry, and within 30 calendar days of arriving you go to the National Migration Institute for the resident card; the [canje guide](https://getmexicovisa.com/canje-stamp-mexico) covers that step.

## Permanent residency at Toronto

Toronto's permanent resident page calls its list general requirements, not all of them, and sets out only one route in detail: family unity, marked as a process completed in Mexico at the National Migration Institute. It states plainly that the foreign spouse or partner of a Mexican or of a permanent resident cannot be issued a permanent resident visa; after two years as a temporary resident, with the relationship in force, the spouse applies to the Institute for permanent status.

Retirees and pensioners are a national route to permanent residency, and the page does not describe it. Ask Toronto by email what it wants. For a sense of scale, Vancouver publishes the retiree route at CAD 10,832 a month in pension or CAD 435,672 in savings for 2026. The [permanent residency guide](https://getmexicovisa.com/mexico-permanent-resident-visa) sets out the national rule, and the [retirement guide](https://getmexicovisa.com/retire-in-mexico-visa) the choice between the two statuses.

## Ontario and Manitoba

Toronto's About page gives its jurisdiction as the provinces of **Ontario and Manitoba**. There is a second Mexican consulate in Ontario, at Leamington, whose own district we have not read. For a residency visa the district is not a limit: the national rules let any consular office take the application.

## Frequently asked questions

### What income does the Mexican consulate in Toronto require for a temporary resident visa?

Toronto does not publish it. Its temporary resident page asks applicants to email visastor@sre.gob.mx for the up to date amount. The national requirement is 680 UMA a month, MXN 79,771, or 11,460 UMA in average savings, MXN 1,344,373, and two other Canadian posts, Vancouver and Leamington, publish those as CAD 6,461 a month and CAD 108,894 in 2026. Ask Toronto in writing and prepare to the higher of its answer and the national figure.

### How do I book a visa appointment at the Toronto Mexican consulate?

By email. Toronto's visa page says that MiConsulado, online or by phone and WhatsApp on 1 424 309 0009, is for Mexican passports, voter cards, birth certificates and powers of attorney, and that for any other service you request an appointment by writing to visastor@sre.gob.mx.

### Can a lawyer or agent apply for me at the Toronto consulate?

No. Toronto's residency pages carry a reminder that it does not accept applications from lawyers or agents: the applicant must apply directly and meet every requirement, or the application is disregarded. Professional help with preparing the file is a different thing from someone filing it for you.

### How do I pay the visa fee at the Toronto consulate?

In cash, or by postal or bank money order or certified cheque payable to the Consulate General of Mexico in Toronto. Its fee table, updated on 1 September 2026, lists the visa at USD 56, shown as CAD 80, and warns that fees are adjusted at the start of every month.

### When is the Toronto consulate open for visa applications?

Its About page gives public hours of Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and Wednesday, 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., marked as reception of applications. The consulate is at 11 King Street West, Suite 350, and sees the public by appointment.

### Which provinces does the Mexican consulate in Toronto cover?

Ontario and Manitoba, according to its own site. Family records issued outside the office's jurisdiction must be legalized by the corresponding Mexican embassy or consulate, and records from outside Canada apostilled or legalized. Under the national rules any consular office can take a visa application.

### Can I apply for permanent residency as a retiree at the Toronto consulate?

Toronto's permanent resident page sets out only the family unity route and describes its list as general requirements, not all of them. The national rules include retirees and pensioners, so ask Toronto by email what it wants. For comparison, Vancouver publishes CAD 10,832 a month in pension or CAD 435,672 in savings for the same route in 2026.
